I'm stoked to be able to share it with fellow colleagues who also are looking for something that is high interest and different to use with students.

By incorporating so many of the tools, links, web 2.0 software I really feel that there are so many things that I have been priviliged to be part of during this course. I have learned so much from my classmates, that I am kind of sad that we are almost at the end, except for late Friday nights working on my homework instead of grading my students' homework. :)

I think I need a life, because learning and growing as a teacher is going to make me Web Woman 2.0! Are teaching "failures" made public a concern? Should they be? Or is it healthy to model iterative improvement and growth in the public sphere?Kelvinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10480142234816865510noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389410464278849840.post-49011526977573783782009-10-12T18:33:23.555-07:002009-10-12T18:33:23.555-07:00I agree with you Katie - you bring up an important...I agree with you Katie - you bring up an important topic. I think by blocking websites, schools are not only taking away valuable resources from teachers and students but they are preventing students from learning to responsibly navigate the internet. You bring up a good point in mentioning that students were able to pull up pornography on their computers even with controls set. I think this generation of students is very computer savvy and seem generally unafraid to work around any controls set. Without barriers, students may be less inclined to prove their abilities to beat the system.Lizhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15595741230344728114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389410464278849840.post-34815594110800921722009-10-09T20:52:50.299-07:002009-10-09T20:52:50.299-07:00I forgot to answer how I will achieve my PLP and h...I forgot to answer how I will achieve my PLP and how I will know it. Well, to answer those questions, I will research each of the goals and then determine best how to reach each one. From that point, determining how each resource is used and the frequency of use, will help me understand whether or not I need to refocus my PLP.Katie Guzmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02696572399051526086noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389410464278849840.post-51740645759434655322009-10-04T10:25:58.883-07:002009-10-04T10:25:58.883-07:00I find this article very interesting because I wil...I find this article very interesting because I will start teaching in the next year and being almost 60 I am concerned for what we are trying do in schools. I want to educate students and not try and change them into me. Their cultural background is who they are and I want to accept them for that. I do think I have a responsibility to help them understand how they need to function in the business world. Unfortunately, in some circles, the business world still has its suit and tie approach, but that does not mean we have to be that 24 hours a day. What I want to provide students is the ability to make their own decisions and not follow the crowd. Getting a tattoo is fine as long as it is what you want and not that you have to follow the crowd. Teaching students to look at both sides of an argument and to look at all issue from multiple perspectives will be a major teaching goal of mine. I want to product critical thinkers and not multiple me.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12865168902019514317noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389410464278849840.post-66936014391345979862009-09-19T06:50:28.184-07:002009-09-19T06:50:28.184-07:00Katie,

I have had many teachers express discomfort over the role of teacher in The Networked Student. One recently compared the teacher in the video to a travel agent. He said he would rather be a tour guide. I thought that was an interesting metaphor, but it reflected a mindset focused on the teaching rather than the learning. I try to keep my focus on learner empowerment, but doing so doesn't mean I have to step completely away from comfortable roles. A willingness to experiment and take small steps can make huge headway.

Enjoy your course!

Wendy DrexlerWendy DGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16645389588613812673noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3389410464278849840.post-40668860773875843542009-09-13T03:04:44.150-07:002009-09-13T03:04:44.150-07:00"...kids don't necessarily need a textboo..."...kids don't necessarily need a textbook to learn from any longer.
